Dear Mom, I'd write a poem for you,
if only I knew how
I'd write about your tender touch,
wisps of hair across your brow
The twinkle in your gentle eyes,
the smile on your sweet lips
How you'd pretend to scold me,
your hands upon your hips.
Oh how I miss the talks we had,
the secrets we two shared
Oh how I miss just knowing,
how very much you cared
I find myself still reaching ...
for the telephone ...
Then realize ... you are not there ..
and feel suddenly alone.
I never got to say thank you ...
for all you did for me
Or tell you what is in my heart ...
and in my memory
Memories are bitter sweet ...
that's what the poets say
I wish I could write a poem for you
On this Mother's Day.
