Sean was known by many people in many different ways. To some
he was a talented musician; to some a composer. There are those that knew him as
an understanding piano teacher or flight instructor. Others remember him as an
outstanding scholar and a hard working student. Still others recall him as a
close companion who made them laugh with his sense of humour and love of life.
To some people he was all these things. |
|
| Sean was an extraordinary individual and in his short life he accomplished alot. One
thing that stands out most about Sean is his musical talent. While still in high school
Sean was able to pick up almost any instrument in the music room and play along with us
in the band. As well he played guitar at home and oboe in senior band. Of course he was
also an incredible piano player. He had so many trophies and certificates from the piano
festival that it is an accomplishment in itself that he found room for them all. When
he wasn't practicing for the festival you could see him accompanying the high school choir,
performing in the jazz band or playing for the fun of it. In the past few years Sean
had also taken up composing. The body of work he left behind includes everything from
big band music to pieces written for a single guitar. I can remember him with a stack
of staff paper jotting down melodies he could hear in his head. Music was always close
to his heart. It was his dream to someday be a professional musician. |
|
| Sean was well known and liked in the high school by students and staff alike. He was
great all round student and did well in all subjects. I remember how hard it was for him
to decide if he was going into music or science when he left high school. Sean was
extremely bright and talented, and it is clear to anyone who knew him from, that he
could have pursued any discipline because he was good at whatever he did. |
|
| Another important part of Sean's life was in air cadets. Through his years with
the cadets he quickly advanced through the ranks to achieve the status of chief warrant
officer. The cadets in his squadron admired him and knew he was someone they could talk
to. Air cadets gave Sean a chance to fly which he loved to do. |
|
| I've been close friends with Sean for the past fifteen years. Throughout his life,
I never saw Sean waste his time with boredom. In his childhood, if he wasn't fooling
around with his chemistry set or taking something apart in his garage; he would be
playing in my sand box or helping me transform it into our hyperspeed spacecraft.
Later in his life you could often find Sean playing or writing music when he wasn't out
with his friends tobogganing, playing football, launching water balloons or doing a
hundred other things. Even when he was busy with school and such, Sean still managed
to find time for the things he loved. He always made the most of every day. |
|
| Sean's friends knew him as someone who always had a good time no matter where he was
or what he was doing and we always enjoyed listening to the stories afterwards. If you ever
heard Sean tell a story you know it was just about the funniest thing in the world. When
he told the infamous bank machine story I laughed till my sides hurt. I still laugh about
those stories and I always will. I could sit down with all of you and tell stories about
Sean for days. If he were here he could too because he could laugh at himself. One thing
that Sean kept no matter where he was or what he did was his appreciation for life. You
could hear it in his laughter and see it in the energy he put into everything he did.
I've heard it said many times, by those close to him, that Sean lived more in twenty years
than most people do in eighty. |
|
| Although, I know Sean lead an extremely full life in the short time he was here; I
also know I will miss him terribly. I'll miss the good times we use to have. I'll miss
his toothy smile, sense of humour, the way he use to trip over his own two feet, the
stories he use to tell and so many other things. But as long as we remember him and
keep telling those stories he'll never really be gone; and even now I can't think of
Sean Hewitt without cracking a smile because of all the joy he brought to my life and
the lives of so many other people. |
